The first display of the brand new look of ShanghART H-Space after the recent renovation, the upcoming exhibition «Clutch» will show art works from both earlier and more recent years of various artists, many of those having been seldom accessible to the public before. The audience is allowed the chance to judge the difference between old and new works and to discover the deeper context of the exhibition title: The word «clutch» refers to a mechanical device that helps a car run smoothly by providing the transmission of power from one component to another. However, it is easy to likewise find the so-called «clutch phenomenon» in the art world. From an intermediate perspective, it can be observed in the relationship between the artists and the gallery. The power transmitted promotes the artists’ creations, while at the same time lifting the gallery to new heights. Meanwhile, one can also find the phenomenon to be present in different periods of each of the artists’ works, as well as in the contrast or links between their old and new pieces. Through each transmission of motion and power the connection forms a clear relationship between the various works.
作为香格纳画廊H空间全面调整后的首次公开亮相，展览《离合器》将各个艺术家的早期创作与近期作品作为一组共同呈现，其中不少此前鲜有公开。观者或将发现其中前与后的变化及秉承的脉络联系，而这又恰好迎合了展览主题：“离合器”是与发动机相连的传动构件，依靠接触摩擦传递力量，使得汽车平稳运行。“离合器”现象在艺术圈中并不少见：它是一种中间量，或许就隐藏在艺术家与画廊的关系间；它帮助减少摩擦传递力量，推动艺术家的创作也引导着画廊的脚步；同时艺术家不同时期的作品中也不难发现它的踪迹：老作品与新作品互相对比碰撞摩擦，“离合器”在加与减的联动中，作为一种承前启后的力量，形成了清晰的作品线索。
