For the change of the time, the creation of modern ink has to deviate from the traditional intellectualist’s social context. Faults and barriers emerge in the sequence of ink’s development. The inner logic of the modern artists’ core creation, in a certain extent, is bound to deviate from the traditional ink. How to construct the new aesthetic framework and perception form within the already exited language and definition of“ink”becomes an inevitable question for the modern ink’s further development.

Although there is no precise definition of modern ink in the academic circle, it is sure that ink should follow the time. That is to say, the ink creation spirit should be connected with the consciousness of the modern time while keeping its traditional cultural root. That is the foothold of modern ink to be enshrined in the art history.

Based on this, this exhibition invites eight excellent artists of the modern art. They have much in common: not simply or lazily bring forth something new from the old through the material or medium, but deeply explore and create inside the nominal language of the ink.

They strictly describe these negative ingredients like self-mockery, anxiety, pleasure, inertia, apathy and decadence, but indeed show their secular solicitude for the contemporary living environment and the social symptoms. This kind of solicitude is not the condescending pity of the traditional intellectualist, but is the common feeling within it. The latter one “absent “is surely more profound and massive.

当代水墨的创作因时代的变迁被迫脱离传统文人画的社会语境后,水墨发展脉络的上下文关系开始出现断层与隔阂,当代艺术家创作核心的内在逻辑在一定程度上必然和传统水墨发生偏离,如何在“水墨”这一既有画种的语言和界定中建构出新的美学支撑和形式内涵,是当代水墨是否能持续行走不可回避的问题。

虽然目前学术界对当代水墨并无明确定义,但可以肯定的是,笔墨当随时代,在保留传统文化根性的前提下,创作精神与所处时代的意识思维发生关系,是当代水墨被载入艺术史的立足之本。基于此,本次展览拟定邀请八位在当代水墨领域颇有建树的艺术家参展,他们的共同之处在于并非简单惰性地在水墨材质和媒介上翻陈出新,而是在水墨本体语言的内部进行深度探索与开拓。他们将自嘲、焦虑、享乐、慵懒、冷漠、颓废等消极意志直面抒写,实则是对当代生存环境和社会顽疾的世俗化关怀,这种关怀不再是传统文人居高临下的怜悯,而是置身其中的共同感受,显然,后者“在场”的关怀更显深刻与厚重。

本次展览拟定邀请参展艺术家为每位艺术家参展作品五幅,集中展示作品共计四十幅。展览名拟为:“五官·八骏”。展览的初衷源于当下中国水墨创作的集体性趋市场化,艺术价值和艺术主体的独立精神正在日渐消逝,试图以“五官”(五观)——以艺术家的主观情感和社会担当出发,“八骏”(八俊)——八位参展艺术家以骏马为题材,为中国水墨的健康发展和未来走向提供良性发展和更多可能。
